
The project arose to commemorate the centenary of the Catalan Institute of America. In 1920, the Bellmont Theater in New York hosted the opening concert of the Catalan Center, where some historic performances took place: among others, the founder of its orphanage, Agustí Borgunyó and the violinist Xavier Cugat.
In 2017, Prof. Begoña López defended his doctoral thesis "Agustí Borgunyó ¡ Garriga, a case of stylistic chameleonism in the country of jazz" at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, which she obtained with the grade of excellent.
Agustí Borgunyó, a composer from Sabadell, lived for 47 years in different cities in the United States and was the musical soul of the Catalan Center in New York. That's why we wanted to commemorate the centenary of the center performing several concerts including the music of this composer and his closest environment
